Traditions Are Fading

With each day that passes more technology is being developed and integrated into our everyday lives. As much as I am all for new technology that will make my life easier I still like to kick it old school and do some things in a rather traditional way.

Amazon has changed the way that I purchase many items. Since I moved across Canada Amazon Prime has aided me in purchasing many gifts for family members without paying the hefty cost of shipping. I pay $7.99 CAD a month for an Amazon Prime membership and after just one purchase it pays for it's self (and some) compared to the cost of shipping by standard post all the way to Ontario.

I love getting packages in the mail (maybe a little too much). I think that many people are like me in this way and also enjoy getting stuff in the mail. As much as the cost of shipping is killer I do enjoy sending stuff through the traditional mail method. I like to personalize gifts and wrap them up all cute. Even just signing a card with an actual pen can mean that much more. Nowadays it seems that almost everything has switched to electronic whether it be our banking, birthday cards or gift cards. I encourage you to keep this tradition alive and purchase a physical card and fill it out with a pen. Send it in the mail if you are far away from the person or if you live close to them (even better) deliver it directly. Something as simple as this can brighten someones day! I don't live near family so this traditional method is something that I always do! I am currently working on two projects! The first project will assist people with their penmen-ship skills while interacting with new people in a traditional style and the second will help spread love and joy in a traditional yet modern way! So stay tuned for that (big things are coming your way friends).

Christmas is another tradition that seems to be fading away or just flat out not the same as when I was a kid. Christmas is a magical time of the year. There is a lot of joy and kindness floating around in the air. I moved to Alberta about two years ago. I only have my boyfriend and his sister and her boyfriend out here to celebrate the holidays with (also my two nieces Mash and Jo - they are very cute dogos). What I am getting at is that Christmas isn't quite the same as when I was back home in Ontario. I don't get to spend it with all my loved ones. Sure we video chat and send each other gifts but I don't get the same fulfillment as I would spending actual time with them. To keep the holiday spirit alive and thriving I send out Christmas cards, decorate and put up a Christmas tree. My boyfriend's sister is quite the little baker so that means there are usually lot's of goodies around the house during the holiday season. Putting up a tree is something that I hold very close to my heart. I dislike when people say "I'm not going to put up the tree this year, no one will see it" like hello, you will see it, the tree is there to bring you joy and happiness not for other people to look at! This is a tradition that is slowly on it's way out. Especially with the younger generation (us millennial's are slacking) having such busy schedules they are ditching the tree and even decorating all together! As I mentioned Christmas holds a certain magic and I'm just not ready to let that go.

Reading is another tradition that I feel has lost it's edge in modern society. Reading is something that I really enjoy! I appreciate genres such as Astrology, Poetry, Spirituality, Biographies and Self-Help (p.s. send a girl some recommendations). I have yet to cave and buy an e-reader as there is something about turning the pages of an 'actual' book that I find therapeutic. I know that a lot of people don't read anymore and truly that frightens me. I totally understand that reading isn't for everyone but there are books on literally anything and everything so you just need to find what's best suited for you! An e-reader isn't for me but they are amazing little machines. They are light weight, easy to take with you and the books for purchase are substantially cheaper (which makes sense). Coming back to the topic of traditions, reading an actual book is something that has lost it's way among more modern and popular ways such as podcasts, e-readers and social media (tech has taken over).

In a rapidly changing world it's important to find out what fuels your happiness. Each day I try my best to keep small traditions alive and I encourage you to do the same! Send out that card or gift to a friend or loved one. Open up a book and read! Speak up if someone is trying to change a way of doing something that brings you joy! As I mentioned stay tuned because big things are coming your way from Stressed Out Millennial. Chat soon and thank you everyone for all the love and support!
